Rage. Shock. Anger. Sadness. Frustration. Hopelessness These are the range of emotions I have been experiencing after watching George Floyd murdered in Cold Blood by someone sworn to protect him; but also as I see countless videos and images of law enforcement brutalizing people peacefully standing up for what is right. . I will admit it has been overwhelming and I have wanted to disconnect, because it’s hard. It’s hard to feel this way; and hard to see these truths. And that is exactly the problem. “Silence in the face of injustice is complicity with the oppressor” Ginette Sagan. And these emotions I am just now beginning to experience, are what the Black Community has been feeling for decades every time they are profiled because of their skin, wrongfully arrested because of their skin, beaten because of their skin, KILLED because of their skin. So I am here. I am here to listen, to learn, to spread awareness, to recognize my own white privilege, and to do something about it. . I urge you to speak up. Read literature about anti-racism and social equality. Make calls to your local politicians. Vote. Change laws. Donate. Support Black owned Business. Hold police accountable. Hold ourselves accountable. . I welcome any suggestions of ways to continue this fight against racism and how we can institute real change.
