*not to be confused with "Mexican restaurant that serves goat"
I was glad to see that Taco Bell was recently declared the best Mexican restaurant not only because I believe that to be true, but because it proves once and for all that Taco Bell is in fact a Mexican restaurant.
How can it not be, if it's the best Mexican restaurant of all time?
Some would argue that Taco Bell is not an authentic Mexican restaurant because it was founded by white people, in California, which was never really part of Mexico, and it serves a lot of things you wouldn't find in other Mexican restaurants.
I'd argue that the latter, at least, is part of the reason why Taco Bell is superior to its Hispanic brethren. It doesn't really make sense why I can't go into a so-called authentic Mexican restaurant and order any number of things they sell at Taco Bell, since the menu at Taco Bell is really just an infinite number of permutations of the same few ingredients, dreamed up by people who are obviously on drugs.
Perhaps if Mexicans spent more time getting high and less time putting roofs on people's houses, trying to provide for their ever-expanding families.
Beyond that, I appreciate the fact that I can pretty much always get Taco Bell. There's one in every at least moderately safe neighborhood, and even a few in the hood, and they're open until the wee hours of the morning. I don't even think about Mexican food until like 11 PM, and at that point Taco Bell is the only Mexican restaurant still open. Again, it doesn't make sense why that would be the case, but it is what it is.
