“It feels amazing to be home fucking with my son, I love that nigga to death. I don’t know what y’all know but I know what the fuck I know and I know how I feel about what I know.”—Birdman
Birdman robbed Lil Wayne blind for years, but at a certain point it's time to let bygones be bygones.
This is, after all, the guy Wayne once kissed on the mouth at a wedding, in front of disgusted onlookers. What's $100 million between friends?
I don't know if that's how much Birdman stole from Wayne. Most rappers, even if they're very successful, get jerked by their labels. But this was worse, because the label was run by a black guy.
At one point, Wayne was trying to get $50 million out of Ca$h Money, alleging that they hadn't been paying him royalties and that they owed him for the artists he'd signed to Young Money. I remember Combat Jack once wrote about it, in his capacity as a guy who used to be a lawyer. RIP
Wayne may have even won a settlement from Birdman, but just wouldn't have paid it. He would have popped a cap in Lil Waynes before he cut him a check for an eight-figure sum.
Earlier this year or maybe last year, it was announced that Lil Wayne settled with Ca$h Money for $10 million, to be paid by Universal Music. As part of the deal, Wayne severed ties with Ca$h Money. He's now signed directly to Universal, which was supposedly about to release Tha Carter V. I think there may have been a single at the beginning of the summer, and people just didn't give a shit.
Anyway, it's nice to see Birdman and Wayne have resumed their weird, inappropriate father-son relationship. Ca$h Money is fucked now that Wayne is gone and Drake is leaving soon too, but at least Birdman didn't have to come out of pocket. And maybe he can use the fact that he's nominally reconciled with Wayne to convince young rappers that he's on the up and up.
