An email I received the other day:
Hi Byron. I'm the mom of a child with special needs. I enjoyed reading your blog but had a few questions. You seem to be a very together person, open and caring about people who need a little help in life. Why then would you even post that video of people with developmental disabilities? I can only assume that when you tied the word retarded to it in the headline you sent a message loud and clear. Using the word retarded as pejorative demeans and hurts people with special needs. They are asking for people to find another alternative to stupid and leave them out of the equation. They are human beings who are extremely vulnerable. They are mocked daily and what they have to say is usually ignored by people who see them as life unworthy of life. For someone who seems to work so hard to make the world equal for everyone, why leave the disabled out of the equation?
My other question is why the Boycott Israel banner? Do you really know the full story of what the people of Israel go through day in and day out? They are expected to not protect their borders, sit back and do nothing while rockets are shot into their schools and backyards? Okay, you say you tolerate religions. I say tolerance is not enough. I say you must accept all and know the full story before you banish one.
Maybe I'm all wrong, but seems to me that you're tolerant of "retards" and religion as long as they go along with your plan. How disappointing.
