I was making Lupe Fiasco look stupid back before it was all trendy

via www.mediaite.com

Watching Lupe Fiasco on the O'Reilly Factor last night, I was reminded of that time Mos Def was pwned by Christopher Hitchens.

In both cases, you've got young black guys who are convinced that everything bad that ever happened was the US' fault, which, admittedly, is my worldview in a nutshell, but they don't appear to have the facts to back it up, or maybe they just aren't articulate enough.

Lupe's explanation of his comments on that ABC web series - that when he said Obama was the biggest terrorist, he really meant the US, its foreign policy, and every past president except Jimmy Carter, and bad things in general - felt like a cop out. Obama's ostensibly the guy in charge here in the US, right? If he's out here waging illegal wars, spying on people, torturing people and what have you, not to mention not getting black people a job, then Lupe should lay into him, if not necessarily in the form of calling him a "terrorist" on the Internets, as if he's out here blowing himself up in exchange for sex with 72 virgins. #clarity

Lupe had a huge platform here to state his point of view, and he didn't really do shit with it. Though for what it's worth, he did have O'Reilly to contend with. Bill-O the clown is the master of cutting people off when it looks like they might be about to get an especially good point in, even if it means having his producers cut their mic off. And this conversation appears to be heavily edited. I suppose it's possible that Lupe said something intelligent and it just didn't get aired, via "the benefit of the doubt."
