Is 2Pac the most overrated artist evar?
Speaking of magazines ripping off people's stories, I see Blender is ripping off Combat Jack's old story about how 2Pac is the most overrated rapper evar.
Except, whereas all Combat Jack was saying is that 2Pac is overrated as a rapper, the feature in the new Blender, a list of the most overrated people, places, trends and what have you in music, actually went so far as to call 2Pac the most overrated artist in all of music.
Aww dang.
Cue some insane wigger 2Pac stan showing up to the Blender offices in T minus 10, 9, 8...
No but really, Blender had to have known this was gonna piss off a shedload of people. 2Pac stans are notoriously... shall we say, dedicated.
For example, that post Combat Jack did on 2Pac here might have more comments than any other post on this site. And there was that story, a few weeks ago, about how a 'Pac stan had to break a bottle over a guy's head in a bar, because the guy made the mistake of saying 2Pac sucks.
Keep in mind, this took place a few weeks ago. Not, like, 13 years ago or some shit.
Here's Blender's reasoning, according to a story in Reuters:
Shakur, a "gangsta" rapper who showed his sensitive side in movies, was killed during an unsolved drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in 1996. More than a dozen albums have been released in the ensuing years, and his image is almost as ubiquitous as that of Che Guevara or Bob Marley.
But while Shakur was a decent rapper with "insane rock-star charisma," according to Blender, he also "larded records with self-mythologizing, mediocre filler."

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with the fact that the guy's albums can be a chore to listen to. I tried that shit once for a story I once did for XXL about this very same issue.
But you have to wonder: Would Blender be throwing salt on the guy's grave the way that they are if 2Pac's mom, and whoever else has a stake in the matter, hadn't done as much damage as they've done to the guy's legacy over the years? I seriously doubt it.
Calling 2Pac the most overrated artist in music, at this point, would be weak even if it's true. But I'm pretty sure I could make an even stronger case that Kanye West is the most overrated artist in music.
I doubt Blender would print it though.
