Russell Crowe might play Bill Hicks in a movie

Supposedly, there might be a movie about the life of Bill Hicks, with Russell Crowe playing the late comedian.

This is from a story in the Sydney Morning Herald yesterday about how Russell Crowe is gonna be spending more time in Australia (um, whoopty frickin' do) now that production has stalled on the Ridley Scott film he's working on.

They're waiting for the leaves in England to turn a certain color. No, really.

In the meantime, he's got this script about Bill Hicks he's working on.

"More time in Australia is always a bonus," Crowe said last week.

"I have another project based on the life of comedian Bill Hicks, which is going from treatment to draft stage with Kiwi writer Mark Staufer."

It is understood he is considering playing the main role of Hicks — a controversial and brilliant American comedian who battled drug and alcohol abuse before dying from cancer at 32.

Honestly, I'm not sure what to think.

On the one hand, obviously the more people introduced to the gospel of Bill Hicks, the better.

But what if this shit turns out to be fucking gay, like most Hollywood biopics? Lest we forget, Russell Crowe was in that godawful Ron Howard movie about the retarded college professor who thought he was working for the CIA.
