I'm happy that Ice was man enough to apologize for what he said about Soulja Boy and Hurricane Chris. It's just too bad that he spends the rest of the clip backing up the comments he's apologizing for and expressing anger that Soulja Boy had the gall to stand up for himself. I can see some of Ice-T points, regarding the need for artists to take time in crafting their lyrics, but some rappers just do their thing. Ice-T criticizing Soulja Boy is like a fan of classic rock criticizing disco.
Secondly, bringing in his son is beyond tacky.
I'm disappointed in Ice. He has a great legacy (He took the heat for "Cop Killer" and is still standing tall.); he shouldn't tarnish it.

Imo Ice should have edited himself out of that video and just released the part with his son telling soulja boy to eat a dick.

"I can see some of Ice-T points, regarding the need for artists to take time in crafting their lyrics, but some rappers just do their thing"
i can see the need for people to think before they speak, but some just speak.

Does he not know hes talking to children there is seriously something wrong with a grown man going at children like that.
Honestly not everyone can be listening to music that is food for thought some people just want to dance and "crank that".
Ice T is in the wrong.

They're both complete rap-tards. They should both be shunned for their fuckshit.

"I don't lean upon da wall like i'm in some trance, i only come with one ambition to party and dance" - Ice T
Let some kids snap, chicken noodle soup and superman that hoe and party and dance til their hearts content..thats what music is for sometimes...its like kids back in the day breakin to planet rock. Every song doesnt have to be about lyrics.

Kanye said it best -
"Soulja boy is fresh ass hell and is actually the true meaning of what hip hop is sposed to be. He came from the hood, made his own beats, made up a new saying, new sound and a new dance with one song. He had all of America rapping this summer. If that ain't Hip Hop then what is? A bunch of wannabe keep it real rappers that ain't even relevant, recycling samples trying to act like it's 96 again and all they do is hate on new shit? Niggas always talk about the golden age but for a 13 year old kid, this is the golden age!!! That song was so dope cause everything he said had a hidden meaning... that's Nas level shit... he just put it over some steel drums which is also some Nas shit if you had the 2nd album cassette with the bonus track "Silent Murder" on it. In closing... new niggas get ya money$$$$$$$$$$ Keep this shit fresh and original.... ain't no fuckin' rules to this shit and that's what real hip hop is to me."

Kanye West is a bit foolish:
"A bunch of wannabe keep it real rappers that ain't even relevant, recycling samples trying to act like it's 96 again and all they do is hate on new shit?"
No, we certainly have new shit, which also happens to be good: Vakill, El-P, Blackalicious, etc. Old is not necessarily good, new is not necessarily bad.
But, Soulja Boy -- necessarily -- *is* bad, and untalented.

Once, in college, we placed a large string down in the grass below a gaurd box. Inside, the slightly overweight gaurd sat lazily in the sun, never knowing what would come next. When the fireworks let loose, some kind of instantaneous fight-or-flight mechanism grabbed hold of him, and he flew out of his chair, arms waving crazily. He pretty much destroyed the inside of the box trying vigorously to escape what must have seemed like a large group of people, opening fire.

LMAO @ Kanye comparing Soulja Boy to Nas. Dude is a fucking joke.

So is Ice T gonna be on the whack hip hop side or good hip hop side?
Posted by: ro ceezy | June 22, 2008 at 07:41 PM
Who the fuck cares what Kanye West thinks?! Get a life, stop dedicating your time to disagreeing with everyone!
Posted by: Angel | June 22, 2008 at 09:44 PM
I could have had 2 generations of kids since Ice T was listenable, but he's still 100% on point.

I gotta agree with Kanye on this one. I mean I wouldn't compare Souljah Boy to Nas but hip hop is supposed to be fun. I would compare him to someone like MC Hammer. If "Can't Touch This" came out today everyone would be hatin on Hammer and talking about how garbage his lyrics are. People get in the game for different reasons. I don't really like Souljah Boy's music but it works for parties and clubs. As for Ice-T...His biggest hit is about killing cops so he's the LAST person to be talking about what's real and what's wack.

"LMAO @ Kanye comparing Soulja Boy to Nas. Dude is a fucking joke."
Tell that to Nas while he's begging Kanye to sell him a beat for cheap

Soulja Boy had it right, more or less...

Ice should have never responded to him. He's a grown man trying to argue with a kid. C'mon.
Posted by: Willie Bobo | June 23, 2008 at 08:13 PM
Hip Hop is extremely competative. No matter your age, you are subject to criticism. It's as simple as that. As someone pointed out in the other post, nobody made a big deal of it when Tupac went at Mobb Deep...just because SB isn't hardcore he gets a pass? Fuck that.
I'll give it to you that Ice-T has come out with some weak shit, but will SB ever come out with a 6 In Tha Mornin' or an O.G. Original Gangster? he deserved the criticism. People need to know that this shit is a craft to be honed and perfected.
Posted by: kkkramer | June 23, 2008 at 10:18 PM
High Roller was better than anything SB has ever done.

Yall gotta be kidding. Solja Boy is 17, and wrote a song for people his age, definitely younger, and probably up to about 21ish, 23 tops.
For everyone else there's Jeezy, Rick Ross, Wayne, Jay-Z etc. Leave this kid the f@#$ alone and listen to your grown up hip-hop. People with XM Radio or Directv will know that Solja Boy is on 67 The City with the rest of the Fruit Snack, Bubble Gum rap (Shot out to The 66 General Leo G). If you want your rap grimy go to 66 Raw. Ice-T is what in his late 60's, man please!
Posted by: Smitty | June 24, 2008 at 10:56 PM
Ice-T a old ass nigga. Solja boy is mad gay, son. Both of dem need to stop being so stupid. Hip hop really suck nowadayz. These niggaz all suck!

You have a 17 year old KID making music and feeding his family legally. He could be selling drugs, jacking cars or worse. I am a fan of both of these guys for coming up from the streets and making something out of themselves. Ice T was wrong and let's give him some credit for apoligizig "in his own way". However if we want hip hop to continue we need to be more supportive of each other. He could have pulled the kid to the side and spoke to him if he was that pissed. There were always many forms hip hop to make you dance, the humtie dance, the cabage patch, the tootsie roll and we now we have solja boy. This is an art form with no rules and is an avenue for many black youths to get out of the projects. We need to support each other.
