Lil' Wayne - The Leak: Album Review
Lil' Wayne, The Leak (Cash Money, 2007)
Also last week, Lil' Wayne just kinda released this download-only EP out of nowhere. I guess the label just realized they had to actually release an album by Lil' Wayne in order to write it off as a loss. Those mixtapes don't count.
I'M ME
Sounds just like a million other southern rap records. And the raps themselves are virtually indistinguishable from the shit he kicks on all those damn mixtapes. Which makes you wonder if that's all the album will be. Also, here's the chorus: "I'm me, I'm me, I'm me." Um, really?
GOSSIP
The one he performed to crickets at this year's BET Awards. It's hardly improved in its studio version.
KUSH
Lil' Wayne smokes weed? Who knew! Also, at one point, I think he mentions that he sips sizzurp, but he's yet to develop that problem where you can't take a shit anymore. Good for him!
LOVE ME OR HATE ME
Finally, a southern rap "Night on Disco Mountain!"
TALKIN' ABOUT IT
This one also has string issues. If it didn't, it might be the best song on this, if only because at least he's not trying that hard.
COMMENTS: Lil' Wayne fell off! Not that he was ever *on* in the first place, at least as far as I'm concerned, but this is weak even compared to Tha Carter II. Which doesn't bode particularly well for Tha Carter III, now does it? How are you supposed to be the best rapper alive and you can't even make a good album? Because something tells me he can't. Will 2008 be the year in which Lil' Wayne is as exposed as the joke that he always was? Based on this EP, I wouldn't be surprised.
BEST TRACKS: None of this is worth a shit.
