Lupe Fiasco - Superstar: Track Review
No Carpenters/Big Luther.
After Fiascogate from a few weeks ago, not to mention allegations that he pulled a jihad on a woman's neck, you get the idea that Lupe Fiasco's career is going the way of Little Brother's. He'll drop another album on Atlantic, it'll do even worse than the first one, and the next thing you know he'll be giving his shit away for free on the Internets. But damnit if he's not going out without a fight.
As determined in a poll on this site the other day, only like five people liked that song "Dumb It Down," but now he's back with this song "Superstar" featuring that guy Matthew Santos from the last album. I've never heard of this guy other than on Lupe Fiasco albums. I consulted Wikipeda and, come to find out, "Matthew Santos" is the name of the Jimmy Smits character on the West Wing. Hmm...
He kinda reminds me of Robbie Williams, but you know what? I kinda like Robbie Williams? No grown man on a skateboad. Speaking of which, Lupe's rappin' here is more intelligible than it was on "Dumb It Down," which I realize is not saying a whole lot. But perhaps most importantly, the production on this - even if it's not really all that interesting - is at least not nearly as grating as half the shit on Food and Liquor.
Check the video for "Superstar" after the jump.
