Don Imus: "That's some nappy headed hoes there!"

In case you haven't heard, notorious old crank Don Imus ruffled a few feathers the other day by calling the Rutgers University women's basketball team a buncha nappy headed hoes. It was during a broadcast of his long-running morning show, which is also simulcast on MSNBC.
Of course I don't even follow men's basketball, let alone women's basketball, but I guess this was the finals of the women's NCAA tournament, between Rutgers and Tennessee. It's hard to tell with goddamn YouTube, but you get the idea that the Tennessee team was more "light skinted," and thus Imus was remarking that he found them better-looking. He even went so far as to draw a reference to the Spike Lee film School Daze, though he couldn't think of the name.
Here's the exchange between Imus and Bernard McGuirk:
IMUS: That's some rough girls from Rutgers. Man, they got tattoos and --
BERNARD McGUIRK: Some hard-core hos.
IMUS: That's some nappy-headed hos there. I'm gonna tell you that now, man, that's some -- woo. And the girls from Tennessee, they all look cute, you know, so, like -- kinda like -- I don't know.
McGUIRK: A Spike Lee thing.
IMUS: Yeah.
McGUIRK: The Jigaboos vs. the Wannabes -- that movie that he had.
There's a video of the whole thing after the jump.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Al Sharpton is already on the case and is calling for Imus to be dropped from MSNBC, and probably from his radio station as well. I wasn't even aware that the Reverend Al had his own radio talk show, but apparently he does and Don Imus will be his guest this afternoon. Hopefully, someone will get the audio of that and post on the Internets later on tonight or tomorrow.

I don't think we get Imus in Los Angeles. The only reason Ive heard of him was from Howard Stern's rants.
Posted by: danthrax | April 09, 2007 at 11:24 AM
It comes on really early in the morning here in the Midwest, so it'd probably be like two in the morning out in California.
Posted by: Bol | April 09, 2007 at 11:31 AM
I couldn't think of a better fate for Imus & Sharpton than to have those two pompous blowhards(no homo?) combined together to rant and jack eachother off.
Posted by: The Red Skull | April 09, 2007 at 11:48 AM
^ You put no homo after blowhards, but didn't put anything after 'jack eachother off'? You're definitely gay.

Ah, but ask your sister & Bol's mother about that and you'll hear quite a different definition.

You can also catch Imus on MSNBC, I think he comes on at 4 or 5 in the morning though.

Fuck Al Sharpton. I ain't no big fan of Imus, but "Reverend" Sharpton (the jig was "ordained" at the age of 10!) is one nonsensical, overeacting bastard. I hope Imus' bosses tell Sharpton to eat a dick.
Posted by: Nappy Hoe | April 09, 2007 at 04:20 PM
Man Al Sharpton is a ambulance chasing muthafucka. Dude has got to be in the spotlight of every issue he can get his hands on. This is gonna be funny watching Jackson/Sharpton go boa constrictor on GE and squeeze them for cash and donations. When are people gonna learn these two clowns are prostituting issues for money.......
Notice how these two idiots disappeared in the Duke Lacross case and won't go 1000 miles near Dukes campus....

Bitchfork Media is so myopic & hypocritical when it comes to criticizing subject matter.
They bash Brother Ali, calling him an "egomaniac" for being self-critical.
But OTOH they love Weezy Fa-go Baby, a guy who talks about drug dealing & other thuggish activities he never really did.
Bitchfork Media = the worst in "hipster" tendencies

What was the deal with Jerry Tarkanian at the end of that video clip telling that dude "You always fag out"? Pretty funny, but where does that come into play with the Imus shtik?
Before I forget - why don't you do any more food reviews Bol? I haven't bought any fast food in a minute and I'm looking for a good place to help me ease the hangovers. Halleluia holla back!

I heard the whole conversation in my car. It was too funny. Al Sharpton was like you need to be fired no matter what!!! And Imus was like I appologize, but I am not going to be slapped around!!!
Imus got real mad when some gay dude from Vibe magazine called up and was like(in gay voice),"Sir I've been talking about black issues since you were doing used car ads over the radio!!!"
And Imus was like, "Oh really!!! Well I wish I could see you in person!Wish you would say that to my face"
I wish you motherfuckers could of heard that shit.

Ahhh, the good ol' Reverend Al. Always fucking dependable. Any "Black crisis" and he is all over the cameras in an almost pornographic manner. This man is a complete fucking disgrace.
Imus has gone from Rock Jock, to Shock Jock, and now has finally settled into a Political Talk Jock. Obviously these transformations have a little bit to do with his getting older. He has been doing this shit for 30 fucking years! In over 30 years... when has there been any uproar (let alone this much) over anything he has said? NEVER.
So he throws out one comment... one "one liner" that was meant as a throwaway comedy line, and he gets crucified for it. Sure, it was a stupid, shitty joke... but it wasn't based in maliciousness or hate. 30 years... 1 poor comedy line, and now he has to fear for his job? It's borderline insane.
I hate how this country has gotten so hyper sensitive you cannot say anything around anyone. Whatever joke you have, you can be assured it would "offend" someone. Can there be humor without offending? I submit that there cannot be... unless of course we subject ourselves to nothing but Knock Knock jokes. Then again, those who believe in Doors Rights may find the knocking offensive.
If there is no maliciousness or hate in a statement, you cannot get offended by it. In the context of humor, everything should be safe to say. We have to make a clear distinction between hate and humor based remarks. It was clear Imus's comment was humor related. He should not have apologized. He should not have been suspended. He should certainly never be fired for it.
Rev. Al should walk into any comedy club on any given night... he'll hear a lot worse. The only reason this is being made an issue is because of headlines. This is the state of our beloved country. I'm sick to my stomach.

Hey, take it from a black guy who played major college sports. The reason most of us where fucking Becky on the gymnastics squad and not Shaniqua on the basketball team is because most of them where some "nappy-headed ho's"!
PS
What the fuck are these cracka-ass crackas doing watching "School Daze"?

Oh, the trainwreck that mars the land when an education collides with hip hop.

Shit.... He still missed the English class. At least I hope he did. If he still went to that class after fucking Becky then she must have been real tight cos he couldnt hear shit after the Becky session.

Al Sharpton and all those other guys are just a bunch of dumb jigs. Who gives a fuck about what 1 guy says about a few black girls? I mean, black people always say shit like cracka and stuff, but if a White person says nigger or says anything about black people then its some big fucking deal. My message to Al Sharpton:
Nigga please........

Was what Imus said wrong?
- Yes.
Was it an "unAmerican" thing to say?
- Of course NOT.
Should he be condemned?
- Yes.
Should there be a campaign to fire him?
- Of course NOT.
Would we be up in arms if an afro-presenter called an Idaho girls team 'skinny trailer trash' on her show?
- [Yeah, thats what I thought]

I am like 199 years old. I look like the crypt keeper. I constantly talk about black people and gay people 'cause I have nothing else to do. That's all I do in my spare time is talk about minorities and gays. Can someone tell me what century it is.

niggers can suck my fat white dick, fuck all black people they shud all be sent to africa and when there all there, the continent shud be nuked. Then there would be no more crime and no more nigggggggggggers.
Posted by: i hate niggs | April 11, 2007 at 09:48 PM
What Imus said had no place to aired on the television regarless of his feelings toward the african amrican race. The fact is that was he said was offensive and just rude, but for him to try and justify what he said my saw" i have slept in the house with more strange black kids than you," i have black friends". Does that make what he said right...this isn't the first time he has made a cimment like this. After calling them "nappy headed hoes" he followed up by calling them jiaboos. Racism is still alive it just changed forms. If a black dj would have called lets say duke some "dick sucking hoes" would the same reaction occur or would we say no lets suspend him with pay and resume in two weeks? He is already forgiven but the comment will never be forgotten..Racism is ignorance or idolization of another race/ lack of self confidence..does a man feel empowered by belittling another...that isn't such a man on up to responsibilty..

What a week for news.
I pray to God that I've heard the last of that kid's paternity and frankly, I could not give a flaming f**k.
The kid's mother was always good to the eyes, but now she's 6 feet under and I won't miss having to hear about her life & antics every godd*mn day.
Finally, the false jar of sh*t that was the Duke University case finally fell through the floor.
Turns out the accuser, Miss Mangum(is that her correct last name?) turned out to be a bi-polar headcase with a long history of making false accusations.
Pity she didn't stick to just stripping down and shaking her goods for the white folks and sparing all of us this long-running chickens**t saga.
Have to admit, I got a good laugh when the Black Panthers showed up to march about, scowl. and be less than f**king worthless for anyone involved in the Duke nonsense.
Finally, this Don Imus affair has kept me laughing the last no. of days.
True, he shot his mouth off in a public forum and has been called on it, but it seems no worse than the garbage mouth I heard pouring out of mouths of black folk every day when I lived in Chicago.
Hell, if anything, Imus took his cue from the standard laid down by Bol & associates in the upscale world of hip-hop reality.
It's extremely funny to watch those fine Progressive liberals devour one of their own in a frenzy of self-righteous moral indignation.
Much Schadenfreude.
I take it as an excellent political omen for 2008.
Again, what a week for news.

The comments made by Imus wouldn't pose such a problem if the overall sentiment of whites wasn't charged with such hatred and fury for blacks. Everytime something like this happens you have two camps:
1) The condemn the racist camp
2) The "why are black people so sensitive, git over it!" camp
It's a cycle too often repeated, over and over again. It's annoying. Imus knew what he said would cause this and he'll probably become more popular as a result. Meanwhile, you fat bastards sit on the internet as if you're some sort of racial authorities discussing the issue that concerns your respective camp. Then you go to work (or whereever you go) in the morning and make nice with one another. None of you would actually say what you say on here to each other. Since like the mid-90s I've watched time and time again people on the internet talking mad shit about ethnic groups. It's not that Imus is an outspoken racist, its the sentiment seen in THESE environments (ie. the internet) that plays into people's concerns for trite and less than well-thought out remarks made by Imus. Of course someone black is going to think, "man, this guy might be racist" when they're constantly bombarded with comments like "go back to Africa" and "stupid nigger monkey" online. Maybe Imus gets on blogs and does the same thing under a fake name. Shit, he could be one of you guys! Don't get me wrong, this is a free country, but when you're a professional, you need to act as one. The people Imus works for have to worry about something called advertising. Much like Ludacris was dropped from Pepsi and Kobe was dropped from Reebok and Nutella, Imus was dropped from his station. Businesses are about money and stay far far away from politically and racially charged situations. Of course he's gonna get fired. Only the other hand, it doesn't matter what you broke ass fucks say, because you serve no purpose to anything that largescale. Bol, you'd better fuckin post my message this time. Allow someone with education and life experience to kick some knowledge on this site for once or I'll be forced to take you a lot less seriously...

Listen, I'll say that white or black, yellow or red, none of us would willing doggystyle one of those 6'8 ape hos consensually. I bet they got some date rapers in their midst.
Posted by: alec | April 13, 2007 at 01:07 PM
hey alec, why'd you post that pic of that nappy headed ho with her nipple showing? Anyway, "ho" is apparently one of them words that you've got to be a "brother" to say. If you aint black and you say "ho" then Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton put on the black sheets and come lench you.
Posted by: cracker | April 14, 2007 at 04:21 PM
ah, so alec didn't post that, eh? it's just at the bottom of the blog. btw, the nappy headed ho comment was a joke. please don't get the black mafia (or should I say the African-American Nazis) after me.
