Raekwon - Cuban Chronicles: Track Review

Raekwon

From the forthcoming Cuban Linx 2.

I swear, the Wu-Tang Clan is in such a state of disarray. Hasn't Raekwon's sequel to 1995's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx been the works for like three years now? When is this shit supposed to be out, anyway?

Today XXL posted this exclusive snippet (I'm assuming this is a snippet) of a track from the album, which would suggest to me that it may in fact be hitting stores this fall. Which would be sweet if it does. Lord knows hip-hop these days could use something.

Like most Wu-Tang stans, I learned decades ago not to expect too much from Rae's post-OB4CL output. Still, Cuban Linx was one of the best albums evar. How bad could a sequel to it possibly be? Also, most of the tracks I've heard from Rae's Vatican mixtapes have been pretty decent.

If there's an issue, it's that the production usually lacks that dusty, mid '90s RZA sound, which is also the case here. At best, this beat sounds like a half-assed, modern approximation of the shit RZA was kicking back then. Rae's rhymes are pretty solid though - not on the level he was at in 1995, but not too far off, either.
