Dr. Dre is the best producer in hip-hop
Says the Results of Last Week's Poll
Of all the polls I've run on this site, the result of last week's might actually be the most interesting. Maybe I'm just that out of touch, but this turned out about the exact opposite of what I expected.
Peep the results:
- Dr. Dre (238 votes)
- DJ Premier (220 votes)
- Just Blaze (93 votes)
- Kanye West (74 votes)
- Timbaland (70 votes)
As you can see, the list is almost in backwards order according to commercial viability. Dr. Dre has had as many hits as anyone, but not so much recently. Timbaland, meanwhile, is running the charts with artists like Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake. And Kanye West is coming off a year in which he sold millions of albums and won a few Grammys.
Also, the list seems to be tilted to the producer's overall body of work rather than their current output. Aside from Christina Aguilera's "Ain't No Other Man," I don't know that Premier has done anything recently that would warrant him ranking so highly. If the list was strictly confined to best producer as of right now, I'd have to go with Just Blaze.
