TI - King: Album Review

King

TI, King (Atlantic, 2006)
Speaking of TI, I see his new album just received its "unofficial pre-release." I don't normally advocate bootlegging an artists work, but he needs to be held accountable for that Destiny's Child abortion from a couple of years ago.

That said, I'm not posting any links here. Because I already got enough problems as it is. Word to Lesbo Johnson. Nullus.

KING BACK

I've heard better Just Blaze beats, but this is pretty sick, especially the weird '70s porno music horns and breakdown.

FRONT BACK

Features UGK, who must not charge much for guest appearances. Very old school-sounding. It may even be a remake of an old UGK song. I'm not as familiar with their oeuvre. Sorry.

WHAT YOU KNOW

The big single. I think it may also be in the upcoming "gritty urban drama" ATL.

IM TALKING TO YOU

Damn, it's Just Blaze again. TI is not playing. This is like that Game album. Money was clearly spent. Except for UGK of course. That said, this beat might be from Just Blaze's bargain line. TI's last verse on this is the definition of nucking futs.

LIVE IN THE SKY

A quaint-sounding southern fellow talks for a bit. How authentic. Ooh, but this music is mad cheesy. Did Jamie Foxx try to produce this himself? He ain't that talented!

RIDE WIT ME

The title lets me know this is creative, but I may be missing the point. The beat is similar to the big single.

THE BREAKUP

A humorous skit. Like that Oran "Juice" Jones song, but with a "quaint" southern twist.

WHY YOU WANNA

Is this beat sampled from the original Mario Kart? Holy shit! Also, the chorus borrows from bad, J Dilla-ruined Tribe. I think. I'm no expert.

GET IT

Well this is certainly interesting. I'm not sure what to think about it. Damn, I think I like it. I used to hate Swizz Beatz.

TOP BACK

TI refers to himself as the creme de la creme. That shows he's cultured despite being from the South. This beat is by Mannie Fresh, but it's only OK as far as that kind of thing's concerned.

IM STRAIGHT

Me too.

UNDERTAKER

Young Buck's on it, but this beat's kinda weird and retarded.

STAND UP GUY

This album's "Braveheart Party." TI refers to popping a pill. Nullus.

YOU KNOW WHO

A bit bombastic for my tastes, but then I'm old like that. I've been known to rock out to Toad the Wet Sprocket. I mean, they did kinda rock. That's all I need. Or should I say, All I Want.

GOODLIFE

XXL, who's responsible for bootlegging this shit, posted this yesterday. I wasn't impressed then either. Remember that one love song from the Electric Circus? Yeah.

HELLO

Hello, is it me you're looking for? Fucking love raps, man.

TOLD YOU SO

TI was working them traps back when he was 3. Beat that.

BANKHEAD

And then he lets his weed carriers end the album. What a swell guy.

COMMENTS: I wouldn't put this up there with the Lil' Wayne album, but it's pretty good as far as this kind of rap is concerned. They certainly spared no expense as far as the production is concerned. Honestly, nothing on here hit me like that song he did with David Banner a few years ago, but whatever. I'm a hater like that.
