Lil Wayne - Tha Carter II: Album Review

Lil Wayne, Tha Carter II (Cash Money, 2005)
Question for my 3 southern readers: Is Baby from Cash Money doing Lil Wayne's mom, and is that why he's always referring to him as his pa? Because that would just be wrong on so many levels.
THA MOBB
Think the intro from the Dynasty, only 6 times as long (nullus) and not nearly as concentrated. But still rather impressive.
FLY IN
Lil Weezer's flow has improved quite a bit from a few years ago, and particularly from that abortion of a song he did with Destiny's Child and TI (probably my least favorite rapper).
MONEY ON MY MIND
Sounds like yet another one of these dumbass Texas rap songs where the chorus is just a verse from someone else's song that's been slowed down a little bit.
FIREMAN
No homo Juelz Santana. Very teh ghey, as you might expect from a song called "Fireman."
MO FIRE
Two fire songs in a row = is he trying to tell us something? Also, what's the deal with the Shabba Ranks beat? Seriously.
ON THA BLOCK #1
What would a rap album be without several "skits?"
BEST RAPPER ALIVE
I'm pretty sure they jacked the Monks of Santo Domingo chanting thing from the next to last track (I think) from Ironman, but I could be wrong. In fact, I probably am.
LOCK & LOAD
My legally purchased copy says Kurupt is on this, but he must just be doing the chorus. Either way, this wasn't the best of ideas.
OH NO
Boring. Jay-Z fans will love this. In fact, they'll probably love a lot of this album.
GROWN MAN
Eww! A song about Lil Weezer getting his "grown man" on. It even kinda sounds like Luther Vandross. Nullus.
ON THA BLOCK #2
What would a rap album be without several "skits?"
HIT EM UP
Question: How come Trina ain't on this? Aren't they an item?
CARTER II
Also: Doesn't the fact that he can pop a boner in her presence (nullus) more or less prove that he was "tampered with" as a child? Or is that just some kind of southern thing that I'm not up on?
HUSTLER MUSIK
Yikes! Very Malaco Records.
RECEIPT
A song about Lil Weezer's feelings for Trina. Aww...
SHOOTER
L. F. Weezer gets his New Danger-era Mos Def on.
WEEZY BABY
A knock-off Dr. Dre beat, some hideous "singing," and some extra-lame Jay-Z-style rappin'. Who wants to bet this is the next single?
ON THA BLOCK #3
What would a rap album be without several "skits?"
I'M A DBOY
A sort of remake of Rakim's "Paid in Full," minus the quality but featuring the Birdman himself a/k/a Pa.
FEEL ME
A quasi-remake of that horrible Jay-Z song where he raps about how much he'll be missed when he retires. He does drop a "no homo" though, so that's kinda cool.
GET OVER
A dedication to all the homies in the ghetto, or some shit. Lots of really bad singing.
FLY OUT
Similar to the intro, only about a third shorter, thankfully.
COMMENTS: Album of the year. Southern rap fans and Jay-Z fans alike will both find this incredible. Or whatever. Anyway, here's something else I was wondering: Do you think L. F. Weezer got with Trina because Jay-Z (clearly his idol) got with Beyonce?
Damn.
BEST TRACKS: The first two tracks are genuinely pretty good.

first.
>Album of the year.

how so? does he sing and is backed up by an "all star group" featuring vernon reid and the dudes from dave matthews band?
oh, and LF?
Posted by: http://djxplicit.blogspot.com | November 28, 2005 at 04:09 PM
i heard something about that. if they were here today, they'd make weezy wear one of trina's old ass implants. nullus
Posted by: matt | November 28, 2005 at 04:10 PM
Lol @ the Malaco reference.
I guess crafting your entire style after one of the best rappers isn't a bad career path.
But how could T.I. of all people be your absolute least favorite rapper? I'm sure you've heard worse.

>Question for my 3 southern readers: Is Baby from Cash Money doing Lil Wayne's mom, and is that why he's always referring to him as his pa?
No, not at all. It was another thoughtfully planned out gimmick. But, Baby has been taking care of Wayne for some time now, since his pre-teen days.

u serious about album of the year....................................

Great album that will change the face of rap music forever. He has sucessfully tackled our peoples greatest obstacles and helped further the advancement of black culture. He is the fireman and he has the fire deep down in his groin man on feel me.

I agree with album of the year... it's not that good, but then what has been this year? He did some pretty impressive tracks early in the album, and it's a lot better than that slop Chamillionaire threw together, or Kanye's, or what have you. I do wish it had more of a Cash Money sound and had a song or two that was actually catchy like Go DJ, but overall, it was nice.
Posted by: Asher | November 28, 2005 at 06:03 PM
Lil Weezie is now under the Bad Boy umbrella as he has replaced Jeezy in that group who's name escapes me right now.... Boyz in Da Hood, or some shit like that therrr.
Weezie had better hide his wallet from Diddy.

It's a southern thing. That I'm VERY up on. (NULLUSx2)
>Yikes! Very Malaco Records.

This one's strong. First Weezy record I didn't find to be terribly disappointing since his first one, which I only found mildly disappointing.
Posted by: Bomani | November 29, 2005 at 11:32 AM

You've gotta be a little more specific than that.

I love lilwayne he is my favorite rapper and you have to understand his lyrics first before you go critiszing them. How you gone hate on Jay z he retired as the best. So i just wanna say wayne keep up the good work.

>I love lilwayne he is my favorite rapper and you have to understand his lyrics first before you go critiszing them.
theres something ironic about people spelling criticizing wrong when defending someone against criticism.
Posted by: omni | December 02, 2005 at 11:28 AM
Doesn't anyone think that Lil Wayne looks like a transvestite Busta Rhymes.

Posted by: Tri-City | December 04, 2005 at 06:50 PM
I think a lot of ya'll hatin cause for one, he got the baddest chick, and two he will soon be gettin' two checks. Ever since the hot boyz, at the age of 13 weezy also brought that fire. I say keep up the good work and toon out the people that don't know the difference between rap and hip/hop.

first off this is the best album of the year though weezy doesnt have much competition lyrically hes shittin on these rap cats right now carter 1 was great 2 is damn near flawless no mannie fresh gives us a chance to hear a more east coast feel to the whole album personally i love mannie but got tired of his monotonous beats
Posted by: cheezw | December 06, 2005 at 10:20 AM
Lil Wayne has gained my respect as being the best rapper alive since Jay-z retired when he dropped the carter part one....when he said he was the best i was a hater like most of yall and sed "fuck no" but i bought the album to see wat he was capable of and he by far has the best flow of any rapper out now and his lyrics are creative and unconventional, he's not an ordinary punchline rapper like lloyd banks or cassidy....Yall haters just refuse to look pass the immature rapper he once was....I hate most southern rappers like lil flip and those but lil wayne and T.I are 2 of the most talented rappers you'll find out now...The carter II is a very good album i listen to every song...and i would just like to add that Lil wayne has the illest freestyling abilty ive ever heard outside of canibus, big L and royce the 5'9, and i recently downloaded his previous albums and they were not bad at all....FUCK THE LIL WAYNE HATERS

Posted by: Low | December 09, 2005 at 08:01 AM
You ppl and critics just dont listen to my man weezy baby(u got to say the baby if you say weezy). He's the best in the game right now hands down. Y'all just think that he's still that little boy from cash money who was over shadowed my them other hot boys. My nigga is on his shit right now and let someone try to stop him and it would be closed curtains for that person. All yall do is here him yall not listening. If you listen to Tha Carter then his mixtapes like the dj drama and lil wayne gangsta grillz or the prefix or the suffix or even Wayne's world that would make yall niggas hear my man. now just listen to tha carter II and holla back at me.

KILL yoself! I mean, seriously, u don't deserve to be still be alive after saying that dumb shit about the carter II. Lil Wayne is no doubt one of the best rapper out now. And can't none of the rappers out now fuck wit him in freestylin. i want whoever created this site to listen to all his mixtapes, Sqad up #1-8, The Prefix, The Suffix, The Gangsta Grillz dedication mixtape, and both Carter albums. And if u still can't admit he's one of the best alive, U should gargle some bleach while yo hands are tied behind yo back, get some one to soak your head some diesel gasoline, and dive into a pit of flames sometime between right now and tommorrow.
and T.i. is not the worst rapper alive, but he's should definetly give his "King of the South" title to the best.

its not d album of the year. he trying to be too much like new york rappas. dont get me wrong he my 3rd fave rappa, but he tryin to be like somebody he aint. on some of the songs u can tell he freestyles. i love his quick delivery but hate his slow delivery. he unique cuz he rap sloppy

I don't care what nobody say about this album, it's the hottest album out right now. Lil'Wayne look good and his cd goes hard. What a great combination. Am I right. I'm ready for tha suffix and after that one drops I bet 50 cash ain't nobody eva gone forget about my boy wayne. Ya heard me.

To the doubters,
Tell me...please tell me...who in the game is fuckin with Wayne right now? Let me know. By the way...did any of you hear what Jay said about this nigga? When asked (on national TV) "who is carrying the torch since you left?" he replied, and Im paraphrasing, "you really wanna know?..youre gonna be mad at me...Lil' Wayne...have you heard The Carter II?...Best Rapper Alive...go listen to that track." Whas the deal? Sit on that for a minute...then go listen.

So, let me give you the female perspective...I don't really like Lil' Wayne as a rapper...I prefer others who I feel are better deliverers and lyricists, but that is an opinion thatI'm not here to debate...I just have to say that Lil' Wayne is THE ugliest HUMAN (I think he is...) ALIVE. Or Dead. That kid looks like the mummy after all the scarabs ate his skin off. If ugliness was a plane that bitch would be Air force 1. My dog vomits more asthetically appealing things than Lil Wayne. And lookig at his profile is even worse than looking at him straight in the face. I just had to get that out.

Ok but I have to agree with Bol on this one if you make a song called fireman it is garenteed to be gay. If you have a music video were you run around through fire without a shirt on it is kind of gay. If you refer to your boss as pa that is very very very very very fucking Gay...
Posted by: jihad joe | January 28, 2006 at 09:04 PM
If your hatin on wayne then you know nothing about rap cause even Jay-Z said on National T.V that Weezy's the Best rapper right now! An if nobody in the rap game disagrees, then He Really is, and Nobody elses Opinion Matters! Especially the Lame N*gga's with this Gay talk, U nigga's might be gay! I bet if it was Nelly spittin like this, ya'll would be on his Sacks hard!

SO AS SOON AS YALL GET OVER YALL STAGE OF FALLING OFF KEEP DA SOUTHS NAME OUT CHA MOUF BITCHES.
Posted by: chris robinson | March 08, 2006 at 05:25 PM
First, to jihad joe,
The very fact that you evidently pass judgement on the most identifiable and unique (if not the hottest) track on this album based on its title alone (a la "if you make a song called fireman it is guaranteed to be gay") evidences the fact that you aren't paying too much attention to the music itself. Then, to go on and say it's gay, or "very very very very fucking Gay", to refer to someone who, for all intents and purposes, raised you from age 8 or 9 is a stretch at best. Never in your entire comment do you come anywhere close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. I, for one, consider myself dumber for having read it. May god have mercy on your soul.
Secondly,
To all the other misinformed, stubborn, or stupid people out there,
I can honestly say that the only modern rap album that I can say is better on the whole than Tha Carter II is Tha Carter, which ironically enough was recorded by the same artist, the purportedly "extra-lame" rapper who raps in a "Jay-Z style flow", which I infer as meaning the writer of this review would rather listen to WRITTEN raps, oftentimes not even written by the artist him/herself, than have to bear listening to something impromptu with artistic quality, something which CANNOT be said for most written rap. As an aside, the last song Wayne "wrote" was Cash Money Millionaire" on Tha Carter...to me, that's amazing, and I have nothing but respect for someone who can sell two albums like his last two with nothing but a few rhymes ready to go in his head at the time he steps into the booth. Wayne is amazing; if you want to knock him, please give a valid, explained reason (or at least a coherent thought) for doing so.

through reading your reviews on T.I.'s king album and this one I have come to one conclusion: You absolutely no idea what the fuck you are talking about. That are you dont like rap. Lil wayne is the best southern rapper right now, and T.I. is close behind if not equal. Also, how can you not like Husla Musik. Oh yeh and Baby is lil wayne's father.
So how bout you go review a pokemon soundtrack you fag ass motherfucker

This is a great album and fuck you racist pricks.
What kind of music do you listen to that bullshit that talks about killing people and sniffing drugs. For once listen to some real music like Lil Wayne, T.I., and Young Jeezy.
Who in the fuck is Ryan Adams?

Lil' Wayne and T.I. who better than em...NOBODY. Y'all need to quit hatin on Wayne. A lot of niggaz from the north try 2 diss Weezy cause he from the south. But then a lot niggaz up there respect his lyrical destruction on all his tracks. Lets face it... When he drops another monster album what r u gonna say then( Tha Carter 3 or whatever). Y'all are gona start exceptn him. Birdman Jr. is about 2 become a legend. You better watch out 4 him or move out his way. He leavin everybody in his Double Platinum dust...

Man, after hearing the album again and again and again from when it dropped some time ago my final conclusion is that it was SHEEEET!!!
Lil man is still trying to find his lyrical and personal identity. The same old wanna be a hip hop thug for MTV and BET made for video bullsheet! The only thing that saved this weak album was it's heavy rotation.
All yall okra eaters who r getting tight cause cats is dissing Lil man need to get over it and step up ur low standards.
Git wit it u guppys!!

it seems like every review that i have read on this website has been negative. this guy is saying that snoops upcoming album is retarded and that jays upcoming album is a "shit sandwich" that dr.s advocate was repetitive that carter ii is disappointing and that ti is the worst rapper. i dont know if im listening to the same shit that you are. Id like to see you make music that is half as good as this. i think that either you method of listening to music or reviewing music is flawed. perhaps another profession would suit you better.

[Critical Knowledge - Verse]
You call him (Daddy)/ Yeah I bet you do
Now did you get the clue/ little dumb dude
Oh I’m sorry/ Was I to damn rude/ Well excuse you know who
And by the way/ You ain’t the (Boss)/ No more like the bitch
Wearing some lip gloss/ While gettin’ your salad tossed
Now Look I’m the smoke/ You’re the exhaust
Better yet a knock off/ Of Robert Lee Frost
So call this my accost/ I’ve won/ and you’ve lost
And yes I’m on fire/ I am who you admire
So just admit the truth/ You compulsive liar
My level you can not acquire/ So go ahead/ Listen retire
I will no longer be your rhyme supplier/ So kiss this
Like you did (Baby’s) lips/ Now hold up/ Don’t try to grab my hips
I’m not (Gillie)/ I shoot back/ I don’t get shot at
And that’s a fact/ Go ahead check my mortal combat
I’m like (Gotti)/ I’m who you copy cat/ And as a matter of fact
I’m white/ Not black/ And this was only my first attack
So hit me back/ But not like you do (Crack)
You wannabe Jay Z/ Yeah consider me/ To be the greatest Emcee
