50 Cent: Refuse 2 Die DVD

Released this Tuesday, presumably to coincide with the release of the film Get Rich or Die Tryin', 50 Cent: Refuse 2 Die is an unauthorized documentary chronicling the rapper turned actor's inspirational journey from the streets to the stage and his unprecedented acceptance into the heart of mainstream culture. It features interviews with 50 Cent's grandfather Curtis Jackson, Treach from Naughty By Nature, DJ Skribble and DMC from Run-DMC.
Interesting facts revealed in the DVD:
- 50 Cent’s mother was 1 of 10 children. When she became pregnant with 50 at 15, she hid the pregnancy from her father, telling him she had a tumor.
- 50 Cent started selling drugs when he was just 12. At 15, he was expelled when school officials found crack in his shoes.
- 50 Cent dropped out of school and sold drugs full time with his girlfriend until they got busted twice in 3 weeks. 50 used to say his girlfriend had "Magic Draws". She hid the crack cocaine in her underwear and delivered it to 50s customers after a signal.
- 50 Cent lifted weights and earned his GED while incarcerated for selling drugs. He also wrote rhymes and learned to box. His boxing name was BooBoo.
Also, Fiddy's grandpa reveals that he used to rap around the house and that's likely where Fiddy picked up his own rappin' skills. Seriously.
Unfortunately though, it doesn't appear as if Fiddy had any input in this and the film doesn't feature any actual Fiddy music, but instead only lame approximations of it by some low-level producer. The overall production values though seemed reasonably high enough for a film of this type. The DVD was, in fact, released by New Line Entertainment, makers of the Lord of the Rings films.
