Katrina less tragic than we thought

My bad that it's nearly 11 am, or noon depending on where you're reading this. I spent the morning celebrating the life of Rosa Parks, who gave black people everywhere the right to ride on the front seat of the bus, right next to the driver.

Speaking of old people, some good news was recently released about the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Turns out about 60 percent of the nearly 500 victims identified so far were age 61 or older. If you adjust the magic age back to like 50, I imagine you'd have pretty much everybody that died, save for a few babies and people that were shot in the back by the kops.

First the media hypes the Katrina situation by erroneously reporting baby rapes and murdering, marauding armed gangs inside the convention center, and then FEMA purposefully neglects certain sections of the 9th ward. (they actually wouldn't allow rescue missions to take place in certain hoods). Then FEMA blacks out (no pun) the coverage of the body recovery and access to the bodies by family members.

Now, they downplay how many actual deaths there were. Also there were 2000 people reported missing before hurricane Rita. Now you don't hear barely a trickle about whether or not any of the afore mentioned scenarios were ever resolved. Sounds like revisionist reporting to me. It seems to me that forces are at work to minimize the true human costs surrounding Katrina. It was obviously a purposeful neglect by the government. Damage control took over to mitigate the political ramifications.

Yes, he did acknowledge Rosa Parks, but he had to do it with sarcasm. If this was a true hip hop site, there would be no sarcasm. It was the bus boycott that changed the laws that made it illegal to "sit in a white man's seat". Rosa Parks sparked a movement, even though she wasn't the first to break that ridiculous law. That movement was responsible for lifting many of the segregationist laws. Unfortunately, other psuedo-segregationist practices have never been removed and still plague poor people.

This is the trick on these internet blogs. White boys create a hip hop blog only to write articles that constantly insult and clown hip hop artist and the whole hip hop community. They then laugh when blacks come to the site thinking they're at a legitimate hip hop site. You only need to read the hateful comments to realize that you just walked into some sort of KKK, VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) bar that hates you and certainly will spit in your drink, if they serve you at all.
