First of all, I'm happy (but also sad, in a way) to report that a quick search on hispanic bloggers didn't turn up much of anything. In fact, I already own the first place results in Google for the term "Hispanic Bloggers Association" and second place for the term "Hispanic Bloggers." You would think that with the amount of money that these people wire back to Mexico on the dailiy (part of my job at the BGM is processing Western Union transactions), that they might be able to afford to buy computers, but I guess that's just not one of
their our priorities.
Also, it's been brought to my attention that hispanic people who don't live in the Midwest (i.e. about 99.99% of them) have been referring to themselves as "latinos." But then I figured that to refer to ourselves as the Latin Bloggers Association would only serve to confuse individuals such as myself who still associate the term Latin with the dead language.
I figure we've still got a few administrative issues to sort out before we go live with the official HBA Blog. First of all, since it was my idea, I'm nominating myself as President and CEO of the HBA. I'll be accepting applications for various other positions in the comments section below. In fact, feel free to go ahead and suggest which position you'd like to assume (no homo). All positions are unpaid at present, but I'm considering using Jesse Jackson-like tactics to secure ourselves some corporate sponsorship. If we raise enough money in time, a First Annual Cinco de Mayo Hispanic Bloggers Association Meetup at the Chevy's Fresh Mex in Olivette, MO could become a reality.
But let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. I might go ahead and put up the HBA Blog later on tonight, depending on how motivated I'm feeling. If any one of my fellow "latino" bloggers would like to design a banner image for it, that would definitely be helpful. I know from 5 years of high school Spanish + 2 in college that you guys are good at murals. Feel free to use my awesome "Mexican boy and his beloved soccer ball" clip art if you'd like.
