Welcome to the Terrordome, bitch!!!
I grew up with Hip Hop in Brooklyn, New York during the late 1970's, way before the first official Hip Hop record was produced; even before a "Hip Hop" industry existed. Im so old schoool, I was one of the dudes that was disappointed when that weak ass "Rapper's Delight" hit the scene, knowing that official legends like Grand Master Caz would never have a chance to make their mark in the record game. Hip Hop by nature, is, in my opinion, a sport.
Like any sport dominated by men, you will naturally have a few sexist as well as homophobic elements, it comes with the sport (no homo), as well as being a part of the intrinsic nature of man (no homo). I have had the benefit of being both a fan of the sport as well as a professional, and the height of my appreciation for Hip Hop has occured when the players in the game have had beef, rose to the occasion and lyrically waxed 'dat ass.
I have witnessed (yes witnessed) intimately, the "art" of the batttle between The Cold Crush Bros. and the Fantastic Five MC's, Kool Moe Dee and Busy Bee, Kool Moe Dee and LL Cool J, B.D.P. and certain members of the Juice Crew, Ice Cube and N.W.A., Ice Cube and King Sun, Ice Cube and Common, 2Pac and B.I.G., 50 and Ja Rule, Jigga and Nas, Eminem and everyone, The Source and XXL, the list is endless. Unfortunately, the reputation of Hip Hop has been tarnished by a few individuals too immature to "man up" when competion arrived on their door step, thus leading to the east/west coast beef, 2Pac- B.I.G. deaths and so on.
Its similar to that whole basketball brawl incident that happened in Detroit a few months ago: a few bad apples don't spoil the whole bunch. Rappers come in all shapes and sizes especially when it comes to message and ideology (the difference between Public Enemy and N.W.A. notwithstanding, there was room for both of their contributions in the arena of Hip Hop, and what incredible contributions they were). It is my belief that when you create a "Hip Hop" blog, you represent to the world that you are and of Hip Hop, come hell or high water. That means not only respecting and checking the game from a critic/spectator's perspective, but also being ready, willing and able to "bring it" when stepped to. If your shit is tight, or weak, cats will check you, that's the sport, in my humble opinion.
I decided to accept Bol's offer to contribute to his site because I recognized the same spirit of competition that I have witnessed in Hip Hop and I applaud him (no homo) for bringing it to weak ass fuckers out there for perpetrating the fraud. Be he right or wrong, left or right, cats will get checked, and that's part of the game. I have seen dudes killed for this shit, I myself have caught ass whippings, been shot at and have risked my life solely for the opportunity to enjoy this game.
Now I don't want to sound like the old dude on the site (even though I am), but what I hate the most these days is seeing these young cats who have had the luxury of having Hip Hop being safely delivered to their home, claiming that they rep this shit, having absolutely no idea that at a certain point in their lives, they may be forced to step into the arena to earn their battle stripes. Don't get me wrong, you can have it delivered safely, but repping this shit means being able, in whatever form, to leave the confines of your safe lil’ box and standing tall in the middle of the muh'fucking Terror Dome whenever your rep is challenged.
Clyde dude, you were officially stepped to and had the opportunity to earn yer stripes, however, you opted to bitch out, crying to all yer fag friends when the heat was turned up, using tires ass catch phrase crutches like homophobia and sexism to weasel out of the battle. You're weak duke, and it's disgusting to me that you have the audacity to claim that you rep this shit. For all its worth, your Hip Hop card has been revoked.
