Bol's Oscar Picks 2005
My old man had me fill out one of these for an office pool. If he wins, he's going to split the proceeds with me. For the most part, I went with what I figured were the most likely winners, since - unlike in sports - there's not as likely to be any upsets.
Actor -Leading: Jamie Foxx
Actor -Supporting: Thomas Haden Church
Cinematography: The Aviator
Costume Design: The Aviator
Makeup: The Passion of Christ
Actress -Leading: Annette Bening
Actress -Supporting: Cate Blanchett
Screenplay -Adapted: Sideways
Screenplay -Original: The Aviator
Visual Effects: Spiderman 2
Film Editing: The Aviator
Art Direction: The Aviator
Directing: Martin Scorsese
Animated Feature: The Incredibles
Documentary: Super Size Me
Original Score: The Passion of Christ
Original Song: Accidentally in Love
Foreign Film: The Sea Inside
Best Picture: The Aviator
The categories I was most clueless about were the Actress ones (Leading and Supporting), which have, in the past, proven difficult to predict (e.g. Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny), and are both pretty close this year. Hilary Swank beat Annette Bening in 1999 for Best Actress, so this year I figured they might do the opposite. The odds in Best Supporting Actress are more or less split between Cate Blanchett in The Aviator and Virginia Madsen in Sideways, so I decided to go with Blanchett just based on personal preference.
ALSO: Wednesday = New The Crawford Report at The Mack

movies are pretty gay man. 10$ to not be able to talk and smoke for a couple of hours is a rip-off. plus no one ever shoots at the screen anymore.

The worst is when people think they can bring their babies into the theater.

Which categories? I think Actor and Picture are already more or less a lock.

I think MDB will win best pic, and directing for Clint Eastwood. Acting is a lock.
did you see the aviator?

Is The Aviator considered the favorite?

The Aviator is considered a favorite for Best Picture. MDB was better, but Sideways, which doesn't stand a chance, was better than both of them anyway.

Million Dollar Baby really wasn't that good. The Aviator was just retarded.
