The Real World: San Diego - Episode 24: Episode Summary

This week's episode summary didn't end up happening Wednesday the way I like them to because I forgot to set the VCR in my parents' basement to tape it and those fags up at The Asshole wouldn't let me off on break in time to run home and tape it. I ended up taping the one that came on last night (no rerun during the day yesterday due to non-stop Newlyweds reruns) and watching it this morning. Not that you would care about that or anything.

As you can see, this episode begins with Ja on the phone with his momma, who's coming out for a visit later in the episode. She informs him that she has received a letter from the State of Virginia which states that Ja's pa, Anthony has been ordered to appear in court to face charges of non-payment of child support. Ja, who's obviously got some daddy issues, says he doesn't care and would really rather not deal with it. Later on, he goes to some resturant with Jamie and ends up getting choked up while talking about it, which looked like it could've been a pretty smooth move if he would've had the balls to "close the deal." I wonder if that had anything to do with him not having a daddy around growing up.

And then the episode starts to suck. Remember that episode where the gang woke up hung over and ended up being 15 minutes late for work and thus didn't end up "earning" any bonus? Well they basically ended up replaying it again here. Only this week there's a twist: Either Robin or Cameran got the bright idea that they should fall into the water so that they would have to go home and change and therefore wouldn't be able to work. They try it once, but their plan is foiled by Jamie, the Nosy Asian Chick, so then they walk down to the other end of the deck and fall in there. BFD. You know what would've been nice? If those two bitches would've fallen into the water and began to "go to town" on each other. I'm sure The Quarterwit knows what I'm talking about.

Back to the other plot thread of this episode. Ja heads to the by-this-point-familiar airport (where they seem to have ended up pretty much every episode this season) to pick up his Ma. Like most twentysomething black folks, his mom looks to be about 36. She looks kinda like Ja in the face (minus those dumbass spectacles of his) and is built like a linebacker. They head out to some joint to eat onion rings and ketchup (is this what people eat out in New Jersey?) and go over some shit. Ja confides to her that he's all pissed off and shit about his deadbeat daddy. Mama Ja's response: "Eh, fuck it," which I pretty much took to mean "Anthony still drops by every other week or so to drop a load off in my ass and the last thing I need is for your soft, supposedly-grown ass to go fucking that up." Was I the only one who picked up on that?

Meanwhile, Jamie goes to a bar or some such with two of her friends, a gay fellow and another not-nearly-as-hot Asian chick. She starts to tell the two of them the story of what happened earlier that day at work (as if anybody would want to hear about that), when she all of a sudden realizes what actually happened. She runs home right away and tells the rest of the gang (minus Cam and Jamie, of course) in that way only she can (think the Asian chick from "Daria" crossed with that other President of the Fashion Club chick).

The episode (which was pretty gay) ended with a phone convo between Ja and his pops, which went a little something like this (hit it!):

Ja: Hello, daddy.

Pa: What up, nigga!

Ja: I'm in Cali.

Pa: Cali?

Ja: Daddy, I'm angry.

Pa: Well that's good. Call me again some time and we'll talk about it. *click*

Next Week: New roomie Charlie says, "Fuck working!"
