Making the Band 2 Season 3 / Episode 9 The Rebel that Has Made It |
This episode begins with another photo shoot, which I guess is to create the illusion that people other than assholes such as myself still care about these clowns. Also, supposedly they are going to Chicago to play to 30,000 people, which I'm not sure whether to believe or not. They certainly went to Chicago and played in an arena that could hold 30,000 people. Whether or not 30,000 people were there is a whole other story.

Cee-Lo, Cee-Lo Green Is the Soul Machine (Arista, 2004)
I'm getting tired of all of these rappers all of a sudden thinking they're musical geniuses and then when you get the album, it's just a buncha niggas singing and a buncha other unnecessary bullshit. I'm not going to say any names or anything, but I think we all pretty much know who these people are. Cee-Lo already had an album like this out a couple of years ago, which supposedly wasn't that good and I'm assuming this is more or less the same thing, only with a couple of pretty decent singles tacked on to it. Thing is, if Cee-Lo made an album full of songs that sounded like those singles, he might be onto something. On a more or less unrelated note, I caught the video for the new Jadakiss and Nate Dogg song on Direct Effect today and it was really, really good. OK, maybe not that good, but in 2004, I'll take what I can get.

UPDATE: OK, I just got off the phone with that kid Randy and apparently, "the rape" doesn't occur for a few more episodes, at which point the gang is whisked off to Mexico (not to be accused with Greece; apparently they get two trips this season!), so don't pay any attention to any parts here where I was talking about "the rape."

Black Eyed Peas, Elephunk (A&M, 2003)
What the fuck happened here? I had written this huge this huge 39-page introduction to this shit the other day, but it had gotten even a bit more Neil Cumpston than my usual bullshit. So much so in fact that I didn't even think it would be kosher to publish since it would reveal way too much about me and my distate with certain elements in our society. Suffice it to say that this album is bad. Exactly how bad is it? Peter Wolf from the J. Geils Band (not to be confused with the Peter Wolf who wrote "We Built This City") heard it and is on record as saying "Man, these fuckers have no taste at all!" On the other hand, Jay-Z keeps a copy of this in the CD changer of his Maybach sandwiched between John Mayer and Jason Mraz, so maybe he's right and we're all just wrong. I'll leave that up to you to decide. On a more or less unrelated note: You know what the best song ever is? "100 Years" by Five for Fighting. It used to be "Walking in Memphis" by that Marc Cohn guy, but now it ain't no more.
