I'm a Catholic Jew!

wtf?!

Pope asked to rebuke Gibson film
Professional Angry Jew Abraham Foxman has called on the Pope to tell Catholics the controversial Mel Gibson film The Passion of the Christ is not truthful.

"It's Mel Gibson's version of the gospel, it's Mel's gospel. He's entitled but he's promoting it as the gospel truth," said Mr Foxman.

"He (Gibson) is promoting it as biblical, historical truth and I believe the church has a responsibility to its teachings, its interpretation, and this is at variance with what the church is all about."

I would hope that the Vatican and the Catholic Church would stand up to defend its teachings because in fact what the film is an interpretation that challenges what the church has been teaching for the past 40 years.

By "past 40 years," I'm assuming he's referring to "Vatican II," which was this big meeting the Catholic church had back in the '60s where they decided they weren't going to hate Jews anymore, at least not officially.

I learned that in this class called Exploring Religions which I showed up to more often than not.

But the thing is, can anybody point to me to an occasion where Mel Gibson said that this movie was going to be based on some kind of recent notion of Jesus' little crucifixtion story? This movie is the real deal version of the events that took place based on the actual bible--the same book that says stupid shit like if you die, your brother either has to have sex with your widow or give her one of his shoes.

But if you thought that was going to be his only argument, then obviously you aren't familiar with these kinds of people. Of course he had to also trot out the myth of rampant global anti-semitism as yet another reason why the film should be butchered according to his whim.

"That would be an important message to vaccinate against what I believe may be the result of this film. This film shows the Jews as bloodthirsty throughout, vengeful, angry and the Romans (as people) who really don't want to do it (kill Christ)," said Mr Foxman.

"If the church reminds those viewers of its interpretation of history, its interpretation of the Gospel, its understanding of Biblical history - it will act in a large measure to inoculate against the possibility of anti-Semitism."

TRIVIA: The film opens in the US on 25 February, Ash Wednesday, the same day a certain tactless webmaster was born, although not the same actual date.
